Cloisonne ( enamal paint on metal)..is it fired after the paint is applied to the metal?
I have an old lamp base that I have been told is cloisonne,…it is indeed painted metal but I don’t believe it has been “fired” after the paint was applied. Is that still considered cloisonne?
If it’s just paint, probably not. It may be intended to imitate cloisonné.
Cloisonné is an application of enamel, which must necessarily be fired.. also because it is applied in the form of a powder (frit), not a paint, which is liquified and fixed to the metal by the firing.
